A Traditional Feng Shui Audit

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

From the minute residents move into a house, they have started a relationship with the natural energies of that property.  There are four important factors that are involved in a traditional feng shui audit:  Environment, Building, Time and the Residents.

Environment

The landform and the nearby structures greatly influence the overall energies of the surroundings.  Harnessing the positive energies in the environment is key.  The location of the property in relation to this natural surrounding is taken into account.

Building

The building itself has its own energy.  When the building was built and whether any changes or major renovations done are important details to the analysis.  The facing and sitting direction of the property is important in the overall reading.   The compass directions and location of the rooms are also analyze.

Time

A traditional feng shui analysis looks into when the property was built, when the residents move in and when and where any renovations were done as this also determines the energy of the property.  The changing energies of each year is also analyzed alongside the natal energies of the property.

Residents

Astrology and the natal charts (birthdays) of the residents play an important part in assessing how they are affected by the building, the time and the environment they are in.

It is necessary to understand that classical feng shui is the study of qi (energy) that is in anything and everyone.  Qi cannot be compartmentalize into factions.  The tool use in a traditional or classical feng shui audit is the compass.  Questions pertaining to the above factors will be asked of the client to get a thorough and accurate feng shui reading.

Take note that there is another type of feng shui practice today known as the Modern/Contemporary or Western Feng Shui.  This type of feng shui uses a ‘Bagua Map’ and not the compass as its tool.  Its approach is personalize to client’s preference and intentions, and their ‘cures’ are base on individual taste and interior decoration style.

Keep in mind therefore that a traditional feng shui consultation will always look into the 4 important elements and consider the time and space factor of a dwelling.
